WHY WE LOVE THIS WINE
Supple and velvety on the attack, the wine offers a gorgeous ripe blueberry, fig, and blackcurrant fruitaccented by notes of dark roasted coffee beans and chocolate. Fine, buffered tannins emerge on the wine’s back-palate and follow it to a long, spicy, licorice-tinged finish.
ABOUT THE WINERY
Since establishing his Priorat-based winery in 1989 after a stint working at Château Pétrus, Alvaro Palacios has quickly come to be recognised as one of Spain’s greatest winemakers and with a focus on local varieties from exceptionally old, low-yielding vines, he is consistently crafting some of the country’s finest wines. Finca Dofi is mostly Grenache with a small amount of Cariñena from a plot in the village of Gratallops planted between 1900 and 1940 on a precipitous hillside with typical ‘llicorella’ slate soils.
